QUESTIONS TO BE ASKED TO A BIOPSY PATIENT.

• Has there been any heart problems / Diabetes ?
• Has the patient undergone by-pass surgery or any procedure like angioplasty?
• Is he taking Disprin or Asprin or Warfarin ? (If yes, the patient should stop it four days prior to his appointment)
• If patient is taking the above mentioned drugs, please get BT, CT, PT and INR studies prior to the procedure.

PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROSTATIC BIOPSY

• Patient to take a light liquid dinner on the previous night.
• Tab Dulcolax - 2 tablets to be taken for two days prior to the procedure at bed time.
• Tab Augmentin ( 1000 mg) 1-0-1 x 5 days to be started two days prior and to be continued 3 days after the procedure.
• Inj Amikacin ( 500 mg) should be brought along with the patient on the day of the procedure.
• Complete fasting for two hours prior to the procedure. Patient can have a cup of tea and a light breakfast two hours prior to the procedure
• The patient must be accompanied by a relative or a responsible person.
• All previous reports and the PSA studies should be brought along at the time of the procedure.

INSTRUCTIONS POST BIOPSY

• Complete bed rest for 24 hours.
• Restricted movements for the next 24 hours
• In case of fever, please inform the referring clinician concerned immediately.
